Of Sea and Stone Blitz

Enter to win a $50 Amazon gift card in the Rafflecopter at the bottom!!!!

Of Sea and Stone by Kate Avery Ellison
Publication date: February 2014
Genres: Fantasy, Young Adult

Synopsis:
All her life, clever Aemi has been a slave in the Village of the Rocks, a place where the sea and sky meet. She’s heard the stories about the fabled People of the Sea, a people who possess unimaginable technology who live below the waves in the dark, secret places of the ocean. But she never dreamed those stories were true.

When a ship emerges from the ocean and men burn her village, Aemi is captured, and enslaved below the waves in Itlantis, a world filled with ancient cities of glass and metal, floating gardens, and wondrous devices that seem to work magic. To make matters worse, her village nemesis, the stuck-up mayor’s son Nol, was captured with her, and they are made servants in the same household beneath the sea.

Desperate to be free, Aemi plots her escape, even going so far as to work with Nol. But the sea holds more secrets than she realizes, and escape might not be as simple as leaving…

An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball: Gregory Thompson

Welcome back to my interview series An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball! I'll be bringing you a new author and a new giveaway every Monday this year. I hope you'll stop by to check out these  authors and enter to win some prizes!!!! :D

Please welcome scifi/fantasy/horror author Gregory Thompson!!!! I've known Greg pretty much all of my life. He's so funny and a great guy. Read the interview, then enter to win:
one of five ebooks of My Only One

UPDATE: Gregory has offered to add a paperback to the prize package too! Whoo hoo! Thanks, Greg!

MJ: Tell me about your novel in your own words, not the official synopsis.

GT: My Only One is about a future dystopian society where you're only allowed to own one book. Different "Bureaus" run what was the United States of America: for example, the Bureau of Lights and Flames is in charge of monitoring electricity and candle use. The Bureau of Words and Pages keeps tabs on book consumption and perform Sweeps, random searches of homes to ensure Citizens are following the One Book Law. The main character's daughter comes home one day with a second book she has stolen and he must find a way to return it without being caught with it.
http://www.amazon.com/My-Only-One-Gregory-Thompson-ebook/dp/B00BF6KTX6
When he does return it, he opens up a secret world that threatens to overwhelm him.

MJ: OMG, so creative! What's your next release?

GT: My next release is The Indiscriminate, a science fiction novella about a group of 12 Indiscriminates bred from birth and aided with cybernetics to protect the world from Risers and Runners. These Risers and Runners are strange beings that manifested from the fall of the Gray Dirt that has left the world desolate and marginally functioning. One day, while on patrol, Bas and the rest of his team are brought back to headquarters and are informed the Indiscriminate program is being halted due to the overwhelming presence of the Risers and Runners. However, Bas' friend Hillian has disappeared and he vows to find her.

MJ: Sounds amazing! If you were trapped on an island, what three books would you want to have with you?

GT:1. Lisey's Story - Stephen King. No book has made me tear up than this one, and if I need to have a good cry (whether it's because I'm stuck on an island or just because), this book will do it.

2. The Old Man and the Sea - Papa. I know this Hemingway book is short, but it's Hemingway and my favorite. Also, it's also an instructional book on how to fish.

3. A compendium of Edgar Allan Poe stories. Any collection as long as it has everything he ever did. Plus, he's my other favorite author and these stories would be good around my campfire for solo storytelling.

MJ: I looooove Poe too. Who is your celebrity crush?

http://www.amazon.com/Nightcry-Gregory-M-Thompson-ebook/dp/B004QOAH9A/

GT: Nicole Kidman. Always has been, always will be. She can be pretty, she can be hot, she can be pretty hot. Sultry, dynamic, and I picture her as a laid back gal ready to drink a beer anytime. Even in the morning, which is perfect for me.

MJ: It's because you like redheads. Like me, right? lol! What is your favorite color?

GT: Purple. No, not because I like Barney or the Purple People Eater. I just do, okay?

MJ:
LOL! What do you wear when you write?

GT: I wear what I normally wear on any given day: T-shirt, jeans, and socks. Sometimes I throw on one of four of my favorite Izod sweaters, and sometimes I switch out the T-shirt with a Polo shirt. I mean, if I said in my underwear (boxer-briefs) with a smile and a cigar, would that have impressed you?

MJ: Wow, that last one is a visual I didn't need! ;) What's your favorite vacation spot?

GT: My absolute, ultimate, most favoritest vacation spot in the whole wide world is Mackinac Island, Michigan. It's relaxing and unique and recharges the mind. I love taking a 5 a.m. bike ride around the island when there are a handful of people doing the same; it's like you OWN the island. The history there is amazing and eye-opening, and if you do go, make sure you take a nighttime or midnight ghost tour. Boo.

MJ: I've been there twice myself. It is gorgeous.  Do you have any pets?

GT: One cat named Freddie. I consider it my wife's pet really because the cat and I have a Kirk-Kahn relationship. We respect each other, but also have disdain for each other. When we say hello to each other, it's with a small nod and a monotone "Freddie" and "Gregory". Also, I wouldn't want him hurt because I feel he has to stand trial for his atrocities: begging for treats all the time and crawling into bed to nap with me. That look...oh that look...FREEEEEEDDDDDDDIEEE!

MJ: Hahahahaha!! Now, I need YOU to ask ME a question about absolutely anything under the sun. It has to be a yes or no question and will be answered by my all-knowing Magic 8 Ball! The question can be serious or silly - it’s up to you.

GT: Will Stephen King ever become my friend on Facebook (yes, his personal one)? I mean, I requested him so long ago and we have 7 mutual friends. Come on, King, you KNOW me.

MJ: That doesn't seem stalker-y at all....

M8B: You May Rely on It

MJ: M8B is never wrong, so expect Stephen to show up at your house for dinner soon!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog, Greg! I hope everyone takes a second to enter to win Greg's new book, My Only One in the Rafflecopter below!!!!

HIDDEN is in Paperback!!!!

Well, HIDDEN is officially available in paperback. You can order copies directly from the Barnes & Nobles website. I've also been told they can be ordered in-store, but I can't guarantee that, unfortunately. B&N can be persnickety about that sort of thing. At the time I'm publishing this post, they are selling HIDDEN for $11.85. Click here to order from B&N.

If you order a paperback of HIDDEN from Amazon, you are also eligible to download the ebook for free. It's my little gift to you! Currently, Amazon is asking $12.60. Click here to order from Amazon.

Or, if you want a SIGNED copy, you can order one directly from my website. I'm charging $12.00, including shipping and tax. You can order that here. If for any reason, there's a rush on paperbacks
and I run out of stock, I will let you know ASAP.

HIDDEN may be available from other sales outlets and bookstores, but these are the only ones I'm aware of right now.

HIDDEN has been more than a year in the making. I'm thrilled to have the paperback available now. :)

XoXo,

Megg

An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball: Daniel Arenson

Welcome back to my interview series An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball! I'll be bringing you a new author and a new giveaway every Monday this year. I hope you'll stop by to check out these  authors and enter to win some prizes!!!! :D

Please welcome international best-selling fantasy author Daniel Arenson!!! Read the interview, then enter to win:
one ebook of Moth

MJ:
Tell me about your novel in your own words, not the official synopsis.

DA: Moth is about a world that stopped turning many years ago, leaving it torn between day and night. Its one half lies in eternal daylight, the other in endless darkness. On each side, people have been evolving separately. The daylight people live in a lush land of plenty, the eternal sunlight giving rise to jungles, swamps, and forests. On the dark side of the world, all plants have vanished, and people have evolved to survive in darkness; their eyes have grown large, their skin is pale, their hair is white, and they feed of mushrooms and bioluminescent fish. Each side fears the other. When the people of daylight invade the darkness, vowing to defeat the "demons of the night," they find that things aren't quite what they believed.

MJ: I'm a big fan of your Moth series, which anyone who follows me knows! What's your next release?

DA: Moth is part of an ongoing series. Empires of Moth, the second book, was released last Christmas. The third volume, Secrets of Moth, is being released this month. The fourth volume, Daughter of Moth, will follow later this year

MJ: I cannot wait! If you were trapped on an island, what three books would you want to have with you?

DA: David Copperfield -- a book about what it means to be human.
Dragonlance Chronicles and Legends -- old favorite fantasy books.
The Chronicles of Amber -- another old favorite series.
My own books -- not to read but just to place on a bamboo shelf, reminding me of my old life.

MJ: Ooooh, great selection! :) What is your favorite color?

DA: Creepy goth purple, The Birthday Massacre style.

MJ:
Niiiiice. Love it! What do you wear when you write?

DA: The nice thing about being a writer is that you don't have to wear any pants. The downside is that I'm not allowed to write in Starbucks anymore.

MJ: That Canada - so strict about their pants. In the US, the signs say: No shirt, No shoes, No service. We don't have to wear pants. ;) What's your favorite vacation spot?

DA: A couple years ago, we went to Rice Lake in Ontario. Very peaceful!

MJ: I love Ontario. So many beautiful places. Do you have any pets?

DA: We're currently looking to buy a dog. I'll get back to you. :)

MJ: Aw, doggie! Good luck in your search! Now, I need YOU to ask ME a question about absolutely anything under the sun. It has to be a yes or no question and will be answered by my all-knowing Magic 8 Ball! The question can be serious or silly - it’s up to you.

DA: Will the next Star Wars movie be great?

MJ: OMG, I predict it's going to suck (but you know I'll see it in the theater anyway).

M8B: It Is Decidedly So

MJ: Oh, fine then, M8B. Disagree with me, why don't ya? We'll see if it's any good. We'll see...
Daniel, thanks so much for stopping by my blog. It was great chatting with you!

Win ALL of My Novels in Paperback

2014 is shaping up to be a very exciting year!!!

Not only is HIDDEN getting great reviews, but I've also embarked on a project that's really exciting!

As you may know, ANATHEMA, OUBLIETTE, SEVERED, and SLEEPERS have all been available in paperback at one time or another. I designed the interiors myself and, well, they were just okay. Graphic design isn't my thing.

Win with Rafflecopter #1
Now that I'm making a bit more, I can afford to spend some decent money on crafting my paperbacks by using interior designer, Ali Cross from Novel Ninjutsu. The covers will be created by Steven Novak of Novak Illustration.

I plan on releasing all of my novels in paperback form in 2014 - and one of you will win a signed set. In fact, I'll send you a new paperback probably every month as they become available!

If you want a chance to win, enter below. The only required entry is joining my newsletter list. If you're already on the list, no problem - you can still use that as an entry. It's not just for new subscribers, it's for ALL subscribers. :)

This will include HIDDEN, SHUCKED, ANATHEMA, OUBLIETTE, SEVERED, SLEEPERS, AFTERLIFE, THE SUNDERING. Hopefully HUNTED (the in-progress sequel to Hidden). Possibly THE INITIATE (it's just a short story). Perhaps HELL BENT HEAVEN SENT (I haven't decided on that one yet). This prize package is valued at well over $100!!!!

If you want to buy signed paperbacks, I'll give more info on that after the contest is over. <3

Win with Rafflecopter #2
Unfortunately, due to the cost of shipping, I can't extend this giveaway to my international friends. It breaks my heart, but....I do have an alternative contest for the UK fans!

My amazing friend over the pond, Charlie Finn, has this company called 3 Little Owls. She makes these adorable little custom key charms and she's made 5 Hidden key charms! And those can be won by anyone in the UK.

How cute is this? Hidden's cover along with stars, a dagger, an owl, and a dragon?!

I know some of you US people might really want one of these key charms, so feel free to contact Charlie about this. Shipping from the UK to the US can be costly, just like it can from the US to UK. :)

Enter to win the paperbacks through the first Rafflecopter and enter to win one of the key charms through the second Rafflecopter.

An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball: Sarra Cannon

Welcome back to my interview series An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball! I'll be bringing you a new author and a new giveaway every Monday this year. I hope you'll stop by to check out these  authors and enter to win some prizes!!!! :D

Please welcome best-selling YA paranormal and NA contemporary author Sarra Cannon!!! Read the interview, then enter to win:
(1 winner) Peachville High Demons t-shirt and swag pack and a Beautiful Demons Box Set (ebook)
(2 winners) Beautiful Demons Box Sets (ebook)
(1 winner) copy of Death's Awakening (ebook)

MJ:
Tell me about your novel in your own words, not the official synopsis.

SC: Right now I'm working on a book called Sorrow's Gift (sequel to Death's Awakening). It's the second book in my Eternal Sorrows series and it's a story I have wanted to work on for forever! Basically, it's a zombie apocalypse story with a paranormal twist.

The world has been struck with a virus that killed billions, but unlike a lot of zombie stories where it's a government experiment-gone-wrong, this virus was caused by an ancient evil. The series follows five teens as they struggle to not only survive but also to understand what's happening to them. As the zombie horde grows stronger and larger, these teens gain powers that are also growing. How do they fit in? What is their purpose? Will they survive? These are the questions they're asking through these books.

Sorrow's Gift is a journey story. The teens are on the road throughout most of the book. It's been amazingly fun to write and Parrish, the true heroine of the story, is a real bad-ass. I love her so much!

MJ: I love all of your books and am so excited you're writing more! What's your next release?

SC: After this, I'll be working on Emerald Darkness, the first book in my Peachville High Demons continuation series. This series picks up shortly after where the final book in the PHD series left off, but this time it follows the points-of-view of both Harper and Lea. I cannot wait for this series to start!

MJ: YAY! More Peachville Demons!!! (It's my favorite YA paranormal series.) If you were trapped on an island, what three books would you want to have with you?

SC: Ahh, only three?? Is there a Harry Potter Omnibus edition that could count as just one of them? Let's just go ahead and say there is :). So, 1. Harry Potter Omnibus. 2. Rebecca by Daphne Du Marier. and 3. Stephen King's The Stand.

I guess I should probably have chosen some kind of island survival guide, but I've never been very practical.

MJ: YES the omnibus counts. :) Who is your celebrity crush?

SC: Ewan McGregor. I love him so much!! I never knew how much until he started singing in Moulin Rouge. I was hooked for life. Of course, it might be a triple-way tie between Ewan, Dave Matthews and Justin Timberlake. <3

MJ:
Um, sorry, Justin Timberlake is on my list. Not sure I'm willing to share. ;) What do you wear when you write?

SC: Yoga pants and tank tops. Always. And I have these pink and black striped fingerless gloves with skull and cross-bones on them that I wear a lot. Oh, and glasses. Duh.

MJ: We would be twins then. Well, except my arm socks are orange. What's your favorite vacation spot?

SC: VEGAS, baby!

MJ: I've never been there. Maybe someday! Do you have any pets?

SC: No. A husband and a son are enough for me right now. However, I really super want a hedgehog.

MJ: A hedgehog? LOL! LOVE IT! Now, I need YOU to ask ME a question about absolutely anything under the sun. It has to be a yes or no question and will be answered by my all-knowing Magic 8 Ball! The question can be serious or silly - it’s up to you.

SC: Would I have any chance of surviving the zombie apocalypse?

MJ: I certainly hope so!

M8B:
Don't Count On It

MJ: Uh oh, looks like you'd better start running, Sarra!!!!! ;)

An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball: Susan Kaye Quinn

Welcome back to my interview series An Interview, An Author, and a Magic 8 Ball! I'll be bringing you a new author and a new giveaway every Monday this year. I hope you'll stop by to check out these  authors and enter to win some prizes!!!! :D

Please welcome MG/YA/adult/fantasy/paranormal/future noir/steampunk Queen of Awesomeness author, Susan Kaye Quinn!!! Read the interview, then enter to win one copy of her steampunk YA novel, Third Daughter.

MJ: Tell me about your novel in your own words, not the official synopsis.

SKQ: Third Daughter is a fun, snuggle-up romance set in an alternate-India. I set out to write a straight romance and somehow it ended up having skyships and saber-duels as well as a whole lot of political intrigue. It's the story of Aniri, Third Daughter of the Queen, and her struggle to choose between following her heart and marrying for love and fulfilling her duty with an arranged marriage to avert a war. Being Aniri, rebellious third daughter who will never wear the crown, she tries to find a third option... and finds more than she expects along the way.

MJ: Sounds awesome, right? It is. I know because I read it. :) What's your next release?

SKQ: I'm still recovering from releasing two books right before Christmas (Third Daughter and my middle grade fantasy, Faery Swap). Hm... my next release is a sekrit project, which will be out sometime in February. After that, Second Daughter (the second in The Dharian Affairs trilogy) will come out sometime in summer 2014.

MJ: WOOT! I love sekkrits!!! If you were trapped on an island, what three books would you want to have with you?

SKQ: Hunger Games, Leviathan, The Art of Happiness, by the Dalai Lama

MJ: The Art of Happiness is one of my favorite books too! Who is your celebrity crush?

SKQ: Joseph Gordon-Levitt... just... yum.

MJ:
He's such a cutie. What do you wear when you write?

SKQ: Pajamas whenever possible. Jeans if not.

MJ: It's best to be comfy! What's your favorite vacation spot?

SKQ: Vacations? What is this thing you speak of?

MJ: LOL! I understand that! Do you have any pets?

SKQ: Two cats who climb into my workstation and eat my paper files. And meow at me for attention whenever I'm writing. I'm convinced they are my Resistance personified out walking around outside my body and tormenting me.

MJ: Now, I need YOU to ask ME a question about absolutely anything under the sun. It has to be a yes or no question and will be answered by my all-knowing Magic 8 Ball! The question can be serious or silly - it’s up to you.

SKQ: When Hugh Howey gets hired as the CEO of New Harper Collins, will he put me in charge of the Author Love Division?

MJ: Ooooh, good question! Hugh would be an awesome CEO, with all of his amazing ideas that support authors!!!! Let's see what M8B has to say about it...

M8B: Outlook Not So Good

MJ: Hey, M8B, you're no fun! :p I can't say I'm sad, though. I want both Hugh & Sue to be writers, not executives, for a long, long time!

Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, Sue! It was great hosting you. I hope everyone enters the Rafflecopter below to win a copy of Sue's book, Third Daughter!
